I've been waiting to go off on this topic for a while. Let's talk about Kobe Bryant. Let me first say I have not liked him since he was drafted out of Lower Merion H.S in Pennsylvania. Kobe pulled an 'Eli' on draft day. Kobe was drafted by the Charlotte Hornets but said 'thanks, but no thanks. i will not play for any team besides the los angeles lakers.' Anybody else remember that? He was traded to the Lakers a couple weeks later for Vlade Divac. I lost all respect for him right then. Move turned out to be good for him though, I'll say that.
Then comes last summer. Kobe was in Colorado to have his shoulder looked at by the best Doc in the country. He was staying at some posh resort for a couple nights, met a girl working at the resort, takes her back to his room...yadda yadda yadda....he's arrested for rape. The yadda part is what nobody in the entire world will probably know except for Kobe and the girl. Thats not up for debate today. What is up for debate is that Kobe cheated on his wife and what this country and most of the world seems to think about him.
Kobe cheated on his wife. Okay cool, he apologized. I saw some sincerity in his eyes when he was crying during the press conference. What gets me is that Kobe shows up for games after being in Denver for his court appearances, takes to the court and all the fans start chanting his name like he is God's gift. Do people not understand what he did? I understand the 'innocent until proven guilty' part, trust me I do, but the whole city of Los Angeles seems to just forget what he did last summer. A) he cheated on his wife. B) he probably raped a girl for not wanting to have sex with him. Would the fans of the Lakers be acting like this if it had happened in LA? What if it was a prominent business mans' daughter in LA?
This all really irks me. Is anybody really going to see how stupid he is for putting himself in this position? He cheated on his wife and his team has stunk this year because of his daily travels back and forth to Colorado. Yet all the fans in LA thinks its great that he can be in court all day then fly to LA at night to score 42 points, 15 in the 4th quarter to beat the Spurs. Yay! Give me a break people....figure it out already.
My comments dont compare to Jason Whitlocks article on espn.com. He sarcastically calls Kobe, Ramko...Rambo+Kobe. Its a great article, check it out.

Played ball last night with the Gazette boys and got clobbered. We watched the final half at Stokes. The place went bonkers at Duncan's shot and then was quiet as the arena after Fisher's. I hate the NBA, but I was entertained.
kobe is crap. i dont respect anyone who cheats on his wife. period. go grizzlies......
TBS has Braves baseball also, c'mon its AMERICA'S TEAM.....or something.......and Comedy Central has Southpark, one of the funniest shows of all time........
'America's team' as you eloquently put it kim, stinks. is under .500 and has traded away all of their top talent in the past few years. Last I looked, as of Saturday morning, the Brewers had a better record. I dont have to say anything more than that -- ry
Actually I forgot to mention my favorite show on Comedy Central...Insomniac With Dave Attell. Dammit.
Kobe is not able to handle success and fame with any class what's-so-ever. He gets a little fame, wields it like with no responsibility (he didn't even wear a condom when he screwed his teenage fan!) , and then recruits his bullies to harang this poor girl. Maybe he DIDN'T rape her...but he DID abuse his social power (yeah..he has LOTS of social power as a result of being a handsome jock that gets lots of media coverage) and he DID take advantage of a teenage girl who was obviously gah gah over him and where there is NO equal status what-so-ever. Turns out, this poor girl is even mentally and emotionally troubled but that didn't stop the predator screwing his easy prey! He should keep his balls on the court and quit abusing the hero power that he has been given. I wish our male heros could live up to the money and fame we give them....if they can't, they should at LEAST not abuse the power generously bestowed upon them.
Your comments are totally idiotic and biased. Okay, you don't respect the fact that he cheated on his wife. Fine, I can appreciate your feelings because what he did was wrong. However, for you to say that Kobe probably raped someone is ignorant and uninformed. You, nor I really know what happened that night! So do us all a favor and think before you have such a definite opinion, even if you don't like Kobe..............Go Lakers!! I'm behind you Kobe, because I understand what innocent until proven guilty means!!!!!!
Laker Fan
Well, what does it matter who likes or doesn't like Kobe? He is a great basketball player, probably the best one on one player in the game, and puts his skill where it belongs, on the court. Actions speak louder than words, and obviously his detractors would have been delighted if he failed on court.
As for cheating on his wife, last time I looked around, this was America, where shootings, rapes, murder, you name the crime, is everywhere. If you want to knock adultery, check your family out, you'll find it somewhere. So add a touch of reality to the hypocrisy.
Rape. I heard someone say that OJ got off because he was a rich black man. True, go back a few years to Jim Crow and lynching, and he wouldn't even have got a trial. On the other hand, if he had been white and his wife black, there would have been very little furore. So flip the coin. For every OJ, a black man who could get a decent lawyer, there are thousands on death row who are probably innocent because they couldn't afford any lawyer, and public representation is crap. I personally doubt that Kobe needed to rape anyone, let alone someone of such...flexible... disposition, if a quarter of what is said is true. The key issue is that he is black. Strom Thurmond abused a 15 year old black maid, then trumpeted racial separation. You hear anyone talking about that? No, didn't think so. So, I say go Kobe, he won't spend a day in jail. The only pity is, she won't either.
Go Kobe keep playing ball and going to court. I hate playa haters everybody has done somthing wrong in their life. GO LAKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ( W.M.W.M)
Why should anyone priase Kobe for doing the job he is paid VERY WELL to do. He is so full of himself a total Jerk. Not to mention a person who not only dishonored his wife and marriage but committed (alleged) a criminal act..RAPE! Tears of remorse and sorrow..Yeah, because he got caught.
I think its true about what kobe really did. But lets talk about his game right now, yeah he goes to court and comes back for his game, but if you see, hes playing really good like nothing had ever happened with that girl!!! And oh my gosh, like if u really take the time to watch him play, there will be a man at the 3 pointer wide open, and hes there get block and he trys to take it!! yeah sometimes he makes it alot, but that just proved that he really is a ball hog!!!And the lakers{ kobe} play really dirty and mean, and all this mean and bad stuff that their doing now will prove that they will not win the championship, unless they get it together and play as a team!!!
I think it is digusting the way Kobe is allowed certain privillages because he is a celebrity. I never liked Kobe either, I hope he pays for what he has done. Looking at him, he doesn't seem to think that he did anything wrong. Shame!
I am most interested in what the bottom line about the entire subject that you don't understand. Really you have already said it but seem not to be willing to accept the fact that different professions are treated different by those as individuals that know who kobe is i.e., the girl you said "when back to his room that night as if she never met him before" should tell you that she has implicated herself as fair game of those who fall to chase NBA Players arfter a game as there foot in the door to entrap them. Why is that hard for you not to as well know that if it was you as a man and beautiful, sexy woman even if you are married are going to be vulnerable. It seems that you are a player hater, and definitely not a player/player. Woman sometimes need a foot in the door; in most cases do you believe that most of the white woman who are married to black atheletes would be married to them if they were not rich and famous? Please stop being so narrow minded and accept both points of view. As for his wife, that is not her problem to live with it is Kobe's he was interested in cheating so he is a cheater, the lifestyle about marriage we all know is only the chance of 50% anyway. She did not marry him til after he was rich and famous and that was a good move. She can go on with her life as I am sure she wasn't a virgin before she met him that she won't be after she met him. Her life can continue where he messed up; but Kobe will have to start over in life of trying to be a non cheater if he wants to be a married man again, and if she doesn't leave he the non-trust will be there for a while unless that diamond ring didn't improve things. Personally I think I would have never brought that ring, and would have looked deeper into a family support situation for the foundation he should have used when he acted out, and to recondition his life style with their support.
sure kobe messed up on his wife but who's to say if it was consensual or not thats up to a jury of his peers to decide not the whole world..actually its up to the big man upstairs to judge and jury kobe. kobe is a damn good basketball player and nobody, not even the "haters" as urself can take that away from him and maybe thats why there are so many people out there like u.. and as for the draft pick not wanting to play for anyone else other than the lakers just goes to show that the rookie,at that time, knew he wanted to play for the best team in the nba.. so until everyone knows the truth as to what "really" happened in that colorado room should not say or judge on anything other than what he does on the court..if convicted for the crime that he is being accused for then he gets whats coming to him..just a shame that the best player in basketball will not be able to play again..and if so no for a really really really long time.
It's like I've always told my sons...and my ex-husband, who also was a "cheater"...if you put yourself in a compromising position...be ready to face the consequences of your actions...when you do things you aren't supposed to do...someone always finds out and there is a price to be paid...whether the sex was consensual or not is not the point...the point is...had Kobe been able to remain faithful to his marriage...he would not be in this position in the first place...is he telling the truth?...is she telling the truth?...we shall see...had Kobe been an honorable man...those are questions no one would be asking...especially a jury that is yet to hear the evidence against him...facing your wife or husband and having to admit to an affair is one thing...but throwing your whole life away for a few moments of pleasure...is certainly another, I think Magic Johnson could attest to that fact...did Kobe rape that girl?...I don't know...and yes, I have my doubts as to whether he did or not...I do know one thing for certain, though...and that is that he's a man who can't be trusted...real men (and women) don't cheat on their spouses or even "flirt" with disaster for that matter...he opened that door and he and only he...walked right through...do I hate Kobe?...no, but I hate what he did...
I'd like to respond to "Comment from noseetq"...while Kobe may be a "good" basketball player...with fame comes great responsibility...and he tossed that in the faces of his young fans everywhere when he chose to cheat on his wife...as far as Kobe wanting to play for the best team in the NBA, at the time...it certainly wasn't the Lakers...it was and had been the Chicago Bulls for a long time...I think it was more wanting to be on a team that was more established than a newer team like the Hornets at the time...who had yet to prove their ability to compete against such "super" teams as the Bulls or the Lakers...other factors could have played into his decison as well...LA is one "hot" town to be in and to quickly become a "star"...Kobe it would seem, as this has come to light...is nothing more than a self-serving, selfish man...who thinks of nothing past "what's best for Kobe"...and not what's best for the team...or worse...his family...make no mistake...he did what was best for Kobe then...and now...makes me ashamed I rooted for him as a rising star in college and the NCAA finals...
I Totally agree i've never liked the guy either. In my opinion he is super arrogant cocky, selfish etc.I think people watch the lakers to see a "team" play not to see the ball hog try and take over every game.He forces too many shots going to the basket and he has teammates wide open give them a chance to make shots.I't doesn't matter what the back of the jersey says it's supposed to be a team game.I am also upset about people making a big deal about playing on game days when hes been in court i could care less. The man is acused of rape.I always hear people saying to give him a break that he could be innocent.Well give me a break this young girl could be telling the truth.I think she should have support also.
actually when he came to colorado it was to get his KNEE checked out.... not his shoulder. and this is my personal opinion... why would kobe have to rape anyone? this girl is just trying to get money out of him because she knows that he has it. i don't think there is anyone on this planet that would say no to kobe!
I for one don't like Kobe at all. I agree I think that he is arrogant and can be. At times, I wish that someone would actually show him what a real foul feels like. However I don't wish for anyone to get hurt. The real problem about the Lakers is that everyone is playing for themselves. I don't think anyone of them cares about the other. Did Kobe rape that lady? I don't really know and you don't know. I talk to people at work who are big Lakers fans. Their opinion about the lady is that she is just trash. They think Kobe hung the moon. And for his wife, they reply by saying that she knew what she was getting into. Get real, the guy cheated on his wife. As they say, thats HOLLYWOOD.
